Thirsty Thursday

"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters;"  Isaiah 55:1
"My soul thirsts for God, for the living God."  Psalm 42:2
"He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things."  Psalm 107:9
"Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.  Whoever believes in me as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them."  John 7:37
"Let the one who hears say, 'Come!'  Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life."  Revelation 22:17
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled."  Matthew 5:6

These are some of the verses I read today as I was thinking about how much God desires me to thirst after him.  Lately I have noticed in myself that I desire to read God's Word but at the very moment I go to do that my mind races to something else, some task that I 'just gotta do' right now.  A while later it hits me that I have went through a whole day without reading the Bible or even spending time in prayer, seeking His will.  I believe the Lord put that thirst in my heart because I need it so much.  I am prone to look to people to meet my urning for fellowship, encouragement, intimacy and to give me a sense of belonging but in reality the first one I am to turn to is God.  He alone knows what my heart needs.  That is where I am today, desiring to grow closer to Him, letting Him quench my thirst, the thirst He put there and the place where I can be completely satisfied.

I love the words of this song as Steve wrote it:

Psalm 63: My Soul Is Thirsting/As Morning Breaks

by Steve Angrisano

Refrain:
My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord,

thirsting for you, my God,

thirsting for you, my God.

My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord,

thirsting for you, my God,

thirsting for you, my God.

Alternate Refrain:

As morning breaks I look to you;
be my strength this day.
As morning breaks I look to you;
be my strength this day,
be my strength this day.

1. O God, you are my God,
and I will always praise you.
In the shadow of your wings
I cling to you and you hold me high.

2. Through the day you walk with me;
all the night your love
surrounds me.
To the glory of your name
I lift my hands, I sing your praise.

3. I will never be afraid,
for I will not be abandoned.
Even when the road grows long
and weary
your love will rescue me.

    I really like what you did here. Those are some really good scriptures when it comes to thirsting what God wants us to drink each and every day. It also shows that we have to keep quenching our thirst each and every day with God's word. Thanks for this, Stan, This is another upbuilding and inspiring post. Thanks again.

    I e-mailed you today. I hope to hear from you soon regarding that. Thanks again Stan.

  3. Thank you for dropping by @proverbspurple, I am doing very good actually. Enjoying the nice warm summer weather we are finally having here. Been working on something to mail you but not quite finished, soon I hope. I read some of your posts of late, deep thoughts, obviously you are learning a lot as you engage in your studies. Have been watching some videos by Jack Frost and have gotten a lot of insight and help from them. A prayer he stated was as follows: "Father, come to these little boys who were never held by their fathers and express the love their dads never could express." God is doing that in my life, I feel His amazing presence and He speaks to me as I journal, that is our Father God!

    @proverbspurple, this is one of the talks I alluded to in the previous comment. Jack Frost died in 2007 but these messages remain. I am learning so much through them. If you get a chance to listen to a couple of them I know you will be blessed.
